Introducing the Color Series

I didn't start drawing to make something. I started because I couldn't stop working, or thinking about work, and I needed my hands busy with something that wasn't a screen.

My daughter gave me a quiz once. One that tells you what kind of mindful coloring suits you. Mine came back architecture. After coloring buildings from all over the world on sheets she printed at home, I started tracing my own photos instead — places I'd visited that had moved me, places I wanted to spend more time in. Slow, repetitive lines, no deadline, no notifications, no inbox. It became a nightly ritual I looked forward to.

I started with Columbus, Indiana — a place I didn't know existed until I saw the film. During Fall break, we visited a friend in Bloomington, and she took us on a design pilgrimage: ice cream sundaes, world-class architecture, leaves falling the whole way.
